TradeInvest to organize its first overseas Business Forum in Darwin, Australia
DILI, TIMOR-LESTE (1st June 2017) – TradeInvest Timor-Leste (TITL) will be organizing a Business Forum that will take place in Darwin, Australia on 16th June 2017. Following the successful of the 1st International Investment Conference held in Dili in 2016 organized by TITL in partnership with Informa Australia, the Business Forum would be the first event held by TradeInvest outside of the country.
“In order to diversify Timor-Leste’s economy, the Government through the Minister of State and Coordinator for Economic Affairs has put a significant effort to improve the investment climate by re-establishing TradeInvest as a Public Institute responsible for investment and export promotion”, said Eng. Estanislau da Silva, the Minister of State and Coordinator for Economic Affairs (MECAE) and Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries. “This agency was created under the Decree Law Number 45/2015 of 30th December, with a main functions to facilitate and support potential investors to locate in Timor-Leste and assist foreign companies in identifying projects and business opportunities that are emerging in Timor-Leste”.
“The main objective of the Business Forum is to serve as a channel for TITL to help promote, support and encourage the development of business individuals through a holistic approach thereby ensuring that the broader knowledge and awareness of Timor-Leste’s investment and export potentials are met”, said Eng. Arcanjo da Silva, the Executive Director of TradeInvest Timor-Leste.
Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, H.E Michael Gunner MLA will address delegates at a Welcome Reception on Friday morning, H.E Minister of State, Coordinator for Economic Affairs is scheduled to officially open the conference at 9:30 on Friday morning, following by a speech remarks from H.E. Secretary of State for Arts and Culture. The Consul-General, Mr. Francisco José Filipe will give the final keynote address on Friday afternoon.
Other Timorese contributors include the Executive Director of TradeInvest Timor-Leste, Eng. Arcanjo da Silva; the Regional Secretary of the Special Zones of Social Market Economy will give a special presentation on the Oe-cusse Special Zone of Social Market Economy.
A common theme of the Business Forum is set on the confidence level of the Government of Timor-Leste to showcase its potential on investment and export and to encourage the participation of Australian businesses in public-private sector partnerships in the development and implementation of key infrastructure projects in Timor-Leste and vice versa.
The Business Forum will focus on the region’s priority investment and export opportunities and how to overcome the existing obstacles to invest in the five sectors as identified in the Timor-Leste Guide for Economic Reform (GRFE), specifically on (1) Infrastructure (PPP projects); (2) Agriculture (Livestock); and (3) Tourism.
