TradeInvest Timor-Leste: “2017 Export Awards”
DILI, Timor-Leste (29th September 2017) – The Government Agency for Investment and Export Promotion, TradeInvest Timor-Leste (TITL) held its 1st “2017 Export Awards” in Suai Room, Timor-Plaza on 28th September 2017 on the theme of “Export Awards – a great opportunity to expand and diversify your business”.
In the welcoming remarks, the Minister of State and Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, His Excellency Eng. Estanislau Aleixo da Silva warmly welcomed the audiences and emphasized that “This event is very important for the government to honor and encourage our private sectors to invest and export Timor-Leste’s products to international markets, therefore to contribute to social and economic development of Timor-Leste”.
The applications for the awards were assessed rigorously by independent panelists, consisting of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Timor-Leste (CCI-TL), Institute of Private Sector Development (IADE) and Market Development Facility (MDF). “During the application process, 33 applications were distributed to private sectors and 13 applications were received (9 applications were for category 1 – existing exporter, and 4 applications were for category 2 – potential exporter)”, reported Mr. Nuno Trindade, the President of Panelist.
The winners of the “2017 Export Awards” were Outspan Agro Timor for the category of existing exporter of the year, and Nova Casa Fresca for the potential exporter of the year. Both companies have invested in agriculture sector with export oriented. The winners were also provided with an incentive of US$500 sponsored by Telemor.
In the closing remarks, the Executive Director of TITL thanked all the audiences for their participation and acknowledged all the sponsors (Telemor, Timor-Plaza Hotel & Aparments, CCI- TL, IADE, MDF and Chambers of Commerce of Northern Territory) for their collaboration and contribution to make the event successfully. “This “Export Awards” event has been organized by Directorate of Export Promotion of TITL and it will become an annual activity for the Agency as part of its strategic mechanism to promote investment and export in Timor-Leste. The success of the event has been the success for all of us, and for the economic development of Timor-Leste”, said Eng. Arcanjo da Silva.
The total audiences in the event were 90, consisting of private sectors (national and international), relevant government institutions, representatives from business community and representatives from development partners. The presentation of the awards was concluded by a Gala dinner and networking drinks.
