Official visit to Municipal of Lospalos

In 2004, Mrs. Brigida Correia, also known as a member of the National Parliament from CNRT Party, established VECOM center in an area of 15 hectares. The main objectives are to foster and feed cattle, and provide training for young people and engineer students majoring in Livestock and Horticulture from UNTL (National University of Timor-Leste). VECOM is also planning to expand its activities into bird breeding, raising pigs and vegetable cultivation.

This travel also covered the visit to the Administrative Post of Valu/Tutuala and the island of Jaco. H.E. Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries with the Secretary of State for Arts and Culture, Mrs. Maria Isabel Ximenes, also directed an open discussion with Valu’s community on potential investment and the Government’s plan for developing and facilitating Tourism in Tutuala and Jaco, such as road development project.

The delegation also visited Cafe Timor’s (CCT)/NCBA activity in Lautem. The center for CCT started in 2015 and currently it has Mr. Felixberto as a Director. Its main activity is providing training for local farmer community who are interested in the cultivation of vanilla, cacao, robust coffee, pepper and etc.. Some farmers have been able to harvest the products, like vanilla and sell it to CCT which ultimately exported for foreign countries, such as Japan and the USA.

The Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries commented and encouraged young people to be pro-active in the area of Livestock and Agriculture, which has great potential for the country's economic growth.

In addition to this, also thanked the CCT for the lasting support to the Timorese farmers in 13 municipalities of Timor-Leste.
